Even when we have become hollow bones?

When the strongest structure in the human body, the bones themselves, have become hollow and decayed?

Commentary covering verses 11–12

The normal flow is not to include the words “ They said.” It should be - They are saying,

“Will we indeed be forced to return to the Ḥāfirah? Even when we have become hollow bones? That, then, would be a worthless cycle.”

“They said” is extra and in the past tense as opposed to “they are saying” which is in the present. This is to show two different intentions they had behind each of these sayings. Allah uses the present tense to describe their continuous and consistent rejection, while He uses the past tense to describe their mockery. They continuously deny and reject it whenever it is brought up, and in one of their private gatherings, they even mocked it.

Their mockery is blatant here. If we are indeed returned back after having become decayed bones, then we truly will be losers because of rejecting it. Yeah, really! And the one who is warning us of it - this Muhammad ﷺ , he would truly be the one who wins. Like that could ever happen!
