And made your sleep - subāt?

We will break down the linguistic meanings of the verses and tie them all together at the end in verse 16.

The word subāt at its root was used for a land that did not produce any vegetation as well as for a motionless and unconscious sleeper. It is the cessation of any growth, movement or motion. A state of stillness that does not change, like the barren land that does not produce anything and the sleeper who does not move.8 Sleep is a state of unconsciousness. To experience life, you have to be conscious and therefore, sleep is the sister of death.
