An-Naba 78:40 - Linguistic Miracle
“Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!"”
Linguistic Miracle
We, like no other, have warned you of a near punishment. The Day man will observe
what his two hands put forth as the disbeliever says, “Oh, I wish that I were dust! The dual use of the majestic pronoun We, creates exclusivity and restriction. We, like none other, have warned you… The descriptions of Hellfire were quite graphic weren’t they? Have you seen any scripture describe it in such graphic details? Such graphic descriptions of Hell are found in only the Qurʾān. Other scriptures like the New Testament will call it a lake of fire, but the Qurʾān describes in such details, it makes you uneasy, which is the entire purpose itself. You can feel it, visualize it, picture it happening in front of you. We have warned you, in this surah, of a punishment that will occur very soon, in a manner no one ever has.
as the disbeliever says, “Oh, I wish that I were dust! - imagine being given your record on judgment day while there is another person beside you who is already reading his record. You have not yet started to read, but you hear that person say “ I wish I were
dust!” What will this do to you? It will terrify you. You will pray for the life of you that things turn out right.
